About Kelly…..the Magpie Faerie and Red Rose of Lancashire…. After spending much of her youth in a daydream world of Wuthering Heights moor-lands and the world of Faerie, in 1986 Kelly decided to serve an apprenticeship in the family jewellery manufacturing business in the field of jewellery master pattern making and design, with the emphasis on studying antique technique and design construction. Her eight year intensive apprenticeship, and the fact that she has always felt ‘out of her true time’, led to her specialising in a more historical and sculptural style of work. Taking time explore her own imaginative and creative passions, on finishing her apprenticeship, she immersed herself in the realms of Faerie lore and British mythology; the work of the Pre-Raphaelites that surrounded her in her native Lancashire; the slightly sinister and sensual Art Nouveau movement; her love of all things medieval, theatre (probably due to the music hall and dance aspect of her family tree); music, literature,Victorian Gothic, Spanish and English history and architecture. She is also now an avid collector of modern Faerie art and feels passionate about promoting fellow inspirational artists to keep the Faerie and fantasy genre alive and kicking. Her work has now evolved into an even more highly sculptural form, art that can either be displayed or worn…...and always has a dimension of Faerie, British mythology or hidden majickal symbolism….“Little by little I am finding myself being lured further and further into the otherworldly Realms of Faerie, a fascinating and sometimes quite sinister journey! All of these strange, exotic and beautifully bizarre creatures that inhabit my mind, or dwell in the hidden places in our ancient country keep slipping out and demanding I sculpt them!! What else can I do when at the beck and call of the Faerie Court?! I have been allowed to enter their world and in return it has become my life’s work to create pieces of jewellery and art about the Faerie folk, to help people see the elves, mermaids, boggarts, faeries, dragons, and such creatures that are hidden around us all the time…. and to tell their stories so that the lore can be passed on to future generations. They were here long before we came and they will be here long after we have gone….and so I feel it is my duty, as a mere mortal, to keep Faerie alive, to give a little majick for people to hold onto in today’s troubled world.”
